Bewailing virginity..!

'Virginity' as well as 'celibacy' is extolled in religions! Why at all the religions do so, when it is not so originally? The very first chapter of the first book of the Bible says: "God created man in his own image... male and female he created them." (Gen 1:27) "It is not good that the man should be alone..." (2:18).

Why at all the daughter of Jephthah request her father, "... let me alone two months, that i may go and wander on the mountains, and bewail my virginity, i and my companions." (Judg 11:37)?

Alphonse Pulickottil

A unique person in our batch! He seemingly struggled with his faith almost all along and had the courage to stand out and continue his search so boldly. It was not easy to stand alone and explore, but he did. He said no to the security so embedded in the official church and let himself vulnerable to the uncertainties of an ordinary man's/'layman's' life! That was his greatness.

He was always there to get all our friends together for the batch gatherings. The last time when we gathered at Irinjalakkuda, he saw that most of our friends who left half way were also there. It was so nostalgic that we all loved it and wanted that to be carried on in the years ahead.

But now, Alphonse has gone, but never from our thoughts! May he enjoy the company of his mother who left him recently and with whom he lived to care her in her old days as he was the only son besides two sisters, one of whom is a nun.

May this great soul enter into the everlasting peace which all of us are destined to reach one day.
